About

Hi! I'm Adrian, the founder of BreakTheScroll.com.

I'm a software engineer passionate about self-improvement and productivity.

BreakTheScroll is designed to provide resources to help you break free from compulsive scrolling.

My story

I have always tried to balance productivity, well-being, and social life. Many times, when I was tired or exhausted, I would compulsively start scrolling. I was not even resting or disconnecting. I felt how I was actually getting more stressed and overstimulating my brain.

I didn't want to quit social media altogether. For me, there was still value in watching my friends' posts and stories, replying, and catching up with them. I only wanted to get rid of the infinite feed of suggested posts. Willpower was not enough. I would compulsively go to the reels, especially when tired. This was making me feel very unhappy and powerless.

It was in the summer of 2020, during lockdown, that I decided to use my software engineering skills to create an app to block the suggested posts on Instagram. So I created Instaddiction, an app I later had to rename to Mediaddiction because of copyright issues.

That same summer, Reels came out, and I saw how the doom-scrolling problem was becoming even worse. So I started developing ScrollGuard, a universal anti-scrolling app. ScrollGuard alerts you when you are doom-scrolling too much, helping you break the addictive loop.

But I realized that blocking apps wasn't enough. There's more to compulsive scrolling than just habit. There's FOMO, accountability, and the need for deeper awareness.

That's why I created BreakTheScroll, a platform that serves as a knowledge base and a source of insights to help you build a more intentional relationship with social media and your phone.

Take what you need, discard the rest. You are in control.

My philosophy

People should be able to choose out of freedom and not out of compulsion.

Some of you might actually find value in TikTok or YouTube Shorts. You might feel that you can learn things and that it helps you disconnect.

Others, like me, genuinely wanted to quit, but we couldn't. We compulsively kept doing something we didn't actually want to do. This is called addiction, and if left uncontrolled, you end up living a life based on compulsion.

I built BreakTheScroll to provide you with a toolbox full of insights, tools, and tricks so you can choose the way you want to live. Whatever you choose, choose intentionally and not out of compulsion.
